BREAKING GROUND & CELEBRATE HOUSING

City officials, local stakeholders, volunteers, housing residents, and service partners came together to celebrate a momentous occasion – the groundbreaking of Walter’s House and our fully occupied housing community! After years of project planning and raising $35 million in funding our East Beamer Way campus is moving onto its third phase of construction.

The campus sits on seven acres at the corner of East Beamer Street and Road 102 in Woodland. Our 100-bed emergency shelter (opened 26 months ago) and 61 permanent supportive housing units (opened 5 months ago) will soon welcome an expanded Walter’s House. Early in 2024 the residential substance use disorder treatment program will move from Fourth Street to its new home at the East Beamer campus. On the horizon, we’ll build a community garden, and community center for residents, and plant trees and landscaping. Still in the concept phase, we would also like to build a medical clinic, a mental health drop-in center, an animal kennel, storage, and a community store for basic supplies.

The expeditious campus build-out took a team effort. More than 30 agencies and individuals were thanked and recognized during the groundbreaking event including the speakers from City of Woodland Mayor Vicky Fernandez, Yolo County Supervisors Angel Barajas and Gary Sandy, Dignity Health Woodland Memorial Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashley Sens, and CA Dept. of Housing and Community Development, Deputy Secretary Sasha Kergan. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this enormous effort.
